behind the coaching.
David combines decades of top-producing sales and leadership experience with a coaching style built on pattern recognition, honest diagnosis, and systems adapted to the individual.
I’ve been coaching sales professionals and leaders for over a decade. In that time I’ve conducted well over 7,500 one-on-one coaching sessions.
I’ve had a long career as a front-line sales producer and sales leader. As a front-line salesman, I’ve been a top producer across multiple industries spanning 30+ years.
During my time as a sales leader, I’ve taken at least three struggling sales teams and successfully turned them into top producing teams in a year or less. One went from 30th out of 35 teams to fifth during the course of one year! In addition, when I was a district manager for a top business training company (leading a group of 12 sales managers who oversaw 168 sales people), my region had the highest revenue growth out of five regions.
In addition to working directly with sales people and sales leaders, I also have experience collaborating with non-sales leaders. Specifically, I was once responsible for creating a new sales division from scratch within a telecom company. My role included everything from strategic business planning, recruiting, training, and ultimately leading the division.
I’ve learned that business systems and frameworks don’t always work the same for different people even if they use the exact same structure. Each system, each script, each framework needs to be adapted to fit the uniqueness of the user.
Additionally I’ve found that leading by saying “everyone has to do this exactly my way” doesn’t work. As a leader you need to adapt your style to how each team member likes to be led. I do the same thing with my coaching clients.
My first sales award recognition came while I was still in college. With the help of a great mentor, I learned the ideal framework to take someone from lead to closed sale. I finished with the highest sales out of 150+ college reps at IBM. Over three decades, I’ve expanded and honed my sales expertise and use that to help clients uncover their best strengths.
After that, I was hooked, and have achieved dozens of President’s Clubs in sales, rising to the top 5% of sales reps across eight companies in five different industries. One company even created a new awards category, “The Vice President’s Special Recognition,” to celebrate the experience I had turning around a bottom performing team to one of the Top 5 in revenue in under a year.
Not only do I help my clients improve their sales and leadership skills and systems, but I help them become aware of patterns occurring across all areas of their lives, enabling them to adapt and form better habits. I’ve had clients double their net income in a year, quit drinking, repair strained relationships, and one even become a pilot.
I’m great at pattern recognition and diagnosing what the real problem is, helping clients become aware of those patterns and adjust course to put them back on the path to their goals.
From clients who need to strengthen their sales abilities, to clients needing systems help, to those learning to truly lead for the first time, I’ll be there helping them expose their own excuses and become aware of their best path forward.
I didn’t start out intending to be a coach. Over the course of three years I turned away dozens of clients that I was selling sales and marketing training to who asked me to coach them personally. After a while it made sense to take on a couple of clients, and the thrill of seeing the impact I was having stuck with me. Coaching became what I was called to do.
I love seeing my clients transform their lives as a whole! Recently a client who grew his sales 25 to 30% in eight months told me that the impact on his personal life has been the most fun, because I helped him bring joy back into his life. Getting to see that working with me has been so impactful gives me energy, joy, and a sense of satisfaction every day. That showed me what’s possible when you stop trying to fix someone and just meet them where they are.
